Singing for Ethel Carnie Holdsworth

The choir is having a break on Tuesday 15th October but please read on for some interesting news!

Throughout this year we have been learning songs about looms, songs about the July Wakes and songs inspired by the amazing local writer Ethel Carnie Holdsworth.

If you know the songs (see below) you are very welcome to join in with the singing. Alternatively we would love you to be part of the audience! The details of the concerts are below (and in brackets the arrangements for those who are singing as you will need to rehearse with the rest of the singers) :

  1. The main event is the special concertall about Ethel on Friday 22November at The Civic Theatre in Oswaldtwistleat 7.30. (Anyone who is wishing to sing should get there at 6.45 and also attend the same venue on Thursday 21st November at 7.30 for the dress rehearsal).
  2. If you preferyou could join us on Saturday 26 October at Accrington Library 2.00 til 3.30. This is going to be similar to the performance we gave at Downham Village Hall. (Anyone who is wishing to sing should get there at 1.00).

The songs are

  • The weaver and the Factory Maid (aka The loom goes click /clack),
  • Sister my Sister, She’s walking with me
  • Jane Power’s song – Universal Life
  • Gitika Partington’s song – Life – as learned on 8 October

All songs will be covered in coming weeks and can be learned by listening to sound files on the Clarion Choir website – Janet will text you the username and password if you get in touch using this email janetswan11@gmail.com

Kathleen’s Wedding.

Congratulations to choir member Kathleen who married Bill last week.  It was a privilege for us to sing at your wedding.

Singing for the Soul. You sang so beautifully at Kathleen’s wedding, that you made me very proud. I had lots of comments afterwards about how special it was, how uplifting and how it made everyone smile.

Taster Session

Tomorrow we have a free taster session at Singing for the Soul. We sing beautiful, soulful songs and make a great healing sound. Every thought you couldn’t sing? Think again!  Please share to anyone you think you would like to have a go. All women are welcome and it’s FREE for all newcomers!

Choir dates for your diary.

Choir will be back very soon (3 September), and there are some other dates for your diaries (including dates for 2020!): 

Singing at the Blackley Centre – 12 October 2019. Jo Williams (formerly of Sion) has asked if some of us can go over to support the launch event she is having for her newly refurbished  centre. It will be a free singing workshop and all are welcome to come and join me. 

More singing relating to the amazing Ethel and chance to polish the songs we learnt in the summer.  Rehearsal on Saturday 16 November(daytime) and performances on Weds 20 Novemberand Friday 22 November  (both starting at approx 6 pm).

End of term celebration

Janet is doing her usual elderflower and nibbles tomorrow (16th July) – please come if you can. There will also be singing and a bit of dicussion from what we were talking about last week (if you weren’t there and haven’t seen the email from Jackie please let us know so that we can send you the information – but all of you have been so supportive! Thank you!)

Choir is back this week

We are back this week for 2 weeks (9 and 16 July) and then over the summer you can either have a few weeks off, or you can join in with any of the Pendle Hill Song Fellowship sessions (please see dates and details below – and let Janet know if you are planning to come or need transport).

Please note we have some important information to let you know about tomorrow (9 July), so please come along if you can! Your input will be much appreciated! If you cannot be there but want to know more, please contact Janet, Sue or Jackie.
